Green Cleaning

What is so great about Green cleaning? In addition to the health and environmental benefits, there is a tremendous amount of research that demonstrates that a deep cleaning using Green cleaning processes and procedures will enable your company to make more money. Consider some of the following statistics that we have taken from a few case studies.

Airborne Dust Declined 52% – Total VOCs Declined 49% -Total Bacteria Declined 40% – Total Fungi Declined by 61% – Passing Math Scores on Standardized Tests Increased 51% – Passing Reading Scores on Standardized Tests Increased 27% – Attendance Increased 4.5% – Total Illnesses Declined 24% – Number of Doctor Visits Declined 34% – Number of Courses of Antibiotics Declined 24% – Days Absent from School Declined 46% – Productivity increases of between 0.5% to 7.0% (translating into approx. 3 to 34 minutes saved per day) – Reduce energy consumption by 25 cents per square foot – Attendance increase of 11.17%

Consider what a conservative 0.5% productivity increase really means for your office. On the one hand, while the 0.5% productivity gain represents nearly 3 minutes per 8-hour work day, that same conservative 0.5% productivity gain can represent big savings throughout an entire organization. Based on figures from the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) the estimated cost of salaries and benefits per square foot for a Class A office building is nearly $300. Thus, an increase in productivity of just 0.5% translates into $1.50 per square foot.

Schools:

The needs of schools are focused around improving attendance and student performance on standardized tests. For example, the Healthy Schools Campaign calculated that a half-percent increase in attendance would result in an additional $300,000 in funding for some larger school districts from the State of Illinois. Other studies, such as the Charles Young Elementary School found that after a major renovation in which cleaning was a key component, both attendance and scores on standardized tests increased.

  • Minimize exposure to harsh aggressive cleaners and VOC emissions
  • Clean schools provide a better learning environment while under maintained schools lose credibility
  • A cleaner healthier atmosphere will assist in performance of learning. Two studies show:
  • Number of doctor visits declined by 34%
  • Passing reading scores on standardized tests increases 27%
  • Attendance increased by 4.5%
  • Total illness declined by 24%

Hospitals:

The needs of hospitals are measured in terms of patient outcomes. Nosocomial infections (those infections acquired in the hospital) are of critical concern in a hospital and helping to implement a Green Cleaning program could be of enormous value. But other important needs include reducing occupational exposures to nursing and environmental services staff, waste reduction, recycling and green issues. Is your Hospital familiar with the Hospitals for a Healthy Environment’s (H2E) Green Guide for Healthcare?

  • Compete for staff and patients
  • Ways to make their environments more pleasant places to work and stay while maintaining sanitary conditions
  • Kill germs without the usual disinfectant smell we normally associate with medical settings
  • Use traditional cleaners in operating rooms that require antiseptic conditions
  • Offices and waiting rooms are cleaned with green products that do not contain harsh chemicals that cause noxious odors, eye and nose irritations, and respiratory problems
  • Use environmentally friendly furnishings and supplies manufactured without toxic materials
  • Hospitals for a Healthy Environment (H2E)
  • Improve safety, reduce waste, and become environmentally responsible

Nursing Homes:

The needs of nursing homes differ significantly from hospitals because their customers use a different decision-making process for picking a nursing home. While cleanliness is and will forever remain a very important issue, but due to increasing competition, nursing homes have an increasing need for “marketing” opportunities that Green Cleaning can offer to help differentiate themselves from their competitors.

Commercial Office Buildings (owner occupied or single tenant):

The needs of these buildings focus around increasing productivity, quality, employee retention, sales and profits through creating a cleaner and healthier environment.; more uninterrupted calls and happier occupants can result in more sales and profits.

Commercial Office Buildings (multiple tenants leased space):

Because the property management company’s profits are not directly affected by the improved productivity of the occupants, their needs deal more with tenant retention, improved tenant satisfaction, reduced complaints, and marketing their property to gain new tenants. Green Cleaning can help in all of these areas.

  • Add real value to a property by cleaning from a green perspective
  • Allows them to maintain Class A status, lease space at a premium, and minimize tenant turnover
  • Allowing tenants to know that the building is cleaned and maintained from a healthy and sanitary approach gives credibility to the cleaning and work being done
  • People spend 90% of their times indoors
  • A healthy building breeds healthy and productive employees and tenants adding value to the owners investment
  • LEED is the framework to obtain 12 points needs toward certification

LEED Buildings:

Buildings operating under the US Green Building Council’s LEED program have a huge need for a Green Cleaning program. We can help them achieve a significant number of points, which is worth a lot towards their certification.

Lodging and Hospitality:

“Green” Hotels are properties whose managers are eager to institute programs that save water, save energy and reduce solid waste–while saving money–to help PROTECT OUR ONE AND ONLY EARTH!

  • Distinguish property as an ecological proactive image
  • A “we care” marketing campaign sits well with guests
  • 83% of US travelers want to support environmentally responsible suppliers of products and services are willing to spend more money to do so
  • Give guests a sense of contribution
  • Let the guest know the products are doing the job needed, doing it well, and cleaning to protect human health

Benefits of Green Cleaning

Studies have found that air inside a building can be two to five times as polluted as the air outdoors. "If you're going to be indoors 90 percent of the time, then you should pay attention to what's going on indoors. The choices we make in cleaning products, equipment, systems and procedures affect our economy and our very lives.
